Update on the teacher trainee allowance

The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has disbursed payments to teacher trainees who had not received their allowances for the 2022/2023 academic year due to mismatched particulars. Trainees who rectified their issues before the portal's closure can now visit the bank, load their cards, and withdraw the cash.

However, the SLTF is yet to disburse the remaining semester arrears for the 2022/2023 academic year to all trainees in public colleges of education. It is hoped that the remaining arrears will be disbursed promptly to alleviate any financial strain on the trainees. The SLTF was established in December 2005 under the Trustee Incorporation Act 1962, Act 106, with the principal objectives of providing financial resources for the sound management of the Trust Fund and to provide subsidised loans for tertiary education in Ghana

The disbursement of teacher trainee allowances is an added service the Trust Fund is providing for education and does not detract from its core mandate.

The disbursement process has been automated to reduce human influence, validate students' information to avoid payments to ineligible individuals, and increase transparency and accountability

Some teacher trainees have expressed their grievances towards the SLTF regarding the disbursement of their allowances

However, the SLTF has clarified that the teacher trainee allowance is not a loan, and trainees will not be required to pay back the allowance.

The Ministry of Education has mandated the SLTF to disburse the allowances, and the disbursement process will lead to the reduction of human influence over the procedure

For more information, trainees can visit the SLTF's official website and refer to their Frequently Asked Questions section for details on loan disbursement
